New York

Well it's been a busy couple of days in New York!
Arrived lateish Saturday afternoon to the luckiest sunny weather πŸ˜ƒ no jackets required (for a while), it was absolute chaos on arrival, streets were packed, maniac cab driver from airport to hotel straight out of India. Taxi drivers all seem to drive with their horns here, making their own lanes, cutting in front of everyone. Seems to be a real game, and they absolutely hate it when another driver does it to them!
Arrived at our lovely hotel, checked in and then went straight back out to soak up the vibe! It was insane!!! Apparently first nice day since beginning of winter so EVERYBODY (and their dogs) were out. Bypassed the bar that was recommended at the end of the street. The waiting queue which appeared to have no chance getting in went around the block. Wandered around a little further and found a quieter one on the river.  That was followed by dinner at our hotel, delicious special chicken for 2 that I'll attempt to replicate at home.  We then turned in for the night and listened to the party goers who were all out in force. The room provides earplugs!
Sunday was a gorgeous day also, we decided to take a stroll to Times Square,
Walked over the Highline to
34th Street and found the Hells Kitchen Markets on 38th. some antiques but appeared to be mostly crap, had coffee at Hells Kitchen! You know!...Gordon Ramsay stuff! then walked on through Broadway and Times Square. Check out this weirdo, not a cute sight 😡

Caught a pedicab (poor guy) from top of Times Square through Central Park as we were running out of time to get back for dinner cruise.  That was fabulous!!! Took an hour to go through, 4 hours if you walk! Saw Lady Gaga place, Denzel Washingtons, John Lennon & Yoko Onos (who still lives there today at 81), saw where JL was killed, his memorial in the park and many more things too numerous to mention, a really Gray way to finish the day before heading back to our hotel and getting ready for dinner cruise.

The dinner cruise on the Bateaux was sensational! πŸ‘ food a bit disappointing for the price but the cruise itself was fantastic, though s bit of commentary would have been helpful to those of us unfamiliar with all the sights.  We were so lucky to see The Empire State Building all lit up with colour in celebration of 50th anniversary of local radio/TV station, so pretty. The Brooklyn Bridge was just stunning and Statue of Liberty really truly, just breathtaking! Didn't bother trying to take pics on the iPhone, wouldn't do it justice, they're on the real camera!
This morning weather turned really nasty with heavy rain and strong winds so a day that we had fully planned turned a bit sour. We still attempted to do some of it starting with The Empire State Bdg, Intrepid, but we were just getting drowned. and soon got over it and as we were the only 2 in the group who hadn't already cancelled, we decided to give our your guide the afternoon off and bailed out on the 911 memorial which is out in the open and the boat trip to Statue of Liberty. Quite disappointing but unavoidable πŸ˜”

Found our way, wet and bedraggled to The Chelsea Markets an old industrial building which was pretty cool. Predominantly food hall type thing but with a lot more class. Now we're back at the hotel, sadly we won't get to check out that rooftop bar girls πŸ˜” it was closed for a private function and now closed for rain 😳 might be a quiet rainy night in I think (or maybe we'll pop down and see if we can get more of a clue as to how to make their chicken dish) before we get ready for that long trek home. It's all been absolutely wonderful πŸ’‹xx

Last day in Niagara Falls

Well today is our last day in Niagara Falls. Woke up to heavy fog and grey skies, lady who brought the coffe to our room remarked what a nice day it was! Really? but it did clear to a sunshiny day as the day went on. Not much left to do as nothing starts until May so we walked around and headed off to watch 45 min 2D movie about the falls, it was very entertaining and informative. It showed (along with lots of other interesting incidents) reenactment of crazy 63 yo teacher who was the first person and woman to go over the falls and survive! She went over in a barrel and took her poor kitten with her. Nutcase!

We followed that with lunch at the revolving restaurant in Skylon Tower and then a new 4D movie at the tower which needs some work, pretty corny but thankfully quite short! That managed to fill the day up quite nicely, walked endless kms but in lovely cool walking weather πŸ˜ƒ Now just about to get ready for an early dinner. Sadly the fireworks we were promised on Fri nights doesn't start until end of May so we've decided to have an early one in readiness of our next leg New York! πŸŽ‰

Niagara on the lakes

Had the loveliest night last night at Skylon revolving restaurant, beautiful food, service, ambiance and spectacular clear skies for photos (which are not on my phone here so I can't include)

Wonderful day today. Supposed to be cloudy and freezing but for the most part was sunny and freezing πŸ˜ƒ
Thanks to Trip Advisor we discovered the gorgeous village of Niagara on the Lakes.

It's the most gorgeous little village with shops and restaurants to die for and tastings everywhere of everything!

We jumped into a taxi this morning and gave him the limited info we had on this area but not only did he know exactly where we wanted to go, he gave us a full running commentary the whole way, stopping for photos everywhere. He was so full of the history of the area, we were so incredibly lucky to have snagged him!

Along the way to the village, we stopped at The Flower Clock which was originally reportedly designed by a person who was crippled and therefore the hands of the clock were made to look like crutches in his honour. Too early for the flowers to be out but still stunning.

We then stopped at thd point where Niagara a Falls first began which is 8miles from where it is now, erosion has caused it to move to where it currently is.

Have lots of pics but not on this phone so can't include them.

Then it was 'the worlds tiniest church' what a sight! Tiny doesn't begin to explain how little this is. It would probably comfortably hold 5-6 people! It's so adorable!!!

We then arrived at the village. Could easily and very happily spend a day here. It is beautiful and quaint and just adorable. It was a half hour drive out of Niagara Falls where we are staying and I'm so happy other attractions weren't operating which made me explore other options and discover this beautiful village! Loved it!!! πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ‘πŸ˜˜

Can it get any more beautiful?!!!

Well come on, really? Can it get any prettier? Now we have a rainbow 🌈
Hope you can see it.
So lovely! xx

Arrived at Niagara Falls

Hello! We arrived at our hotel in Niagara Falls, Canada just before 11 last night, big travel day! Have the most spectacular view from our hotel. We're on the top floor (think the 30th anniversary story may have worked 😳)

Sadly a lot of stuff is not operating until 1/5 so we miss out on doing quite a bit which is annoying. Didn't see any of that on any websites in Oz, I guess they don't want to deter travellers πŸ˜” Its freezing cold and there's still lots of ice on the falls. It's absolutely stunning. We just did a tour through the tunnels under the falls, absolutely crazy and FREEZING!!! We're going tomorrow to the very cute sounding village of 'Niagara by the lake' with lots of nice restaurants, The flower clock, the butterflies, the smallest church ever and the aero car as well as wineries aplenty apparently. They seem to do predominantly white wine here. Going to dinner tonight at Skylon Tower which is a lovely revolving restaurant overlooking the sights as well as the American Falls and ofcourse the magnificent Canadian falls. xx
